Novo mesto is the capital of Dolenjska Region lying in the arms of the Krka River. The old city centre has been formed on a peninsula – in the 14th century the city was named Rudolfswerth which in translation means Rudolf's port. The most picturesque sight in the city is Breg, where the buildings crammed by the river are reflected from the river surface. A walk through Glavni trg square with houses and characteristic arcades and pillars pass the City Hall to Museum of Dolenjska Region and a Cathedral with a monastery is a special experience.  Â
Hill Trska gora is strewn with vineyard cottages and vineyards. The most famous wine in this region is cvicek which you will be gladly offered by the locals.
Grad Otocec  is located on an artificial Island of the Krka River built in the 13th century. The castle on the Island is rearranged into a hotel with a wedding hall. Visit of Dolenjske- or Smarjeske toplice spas is recommended.
