A city with everything. Tirana has striking architecture, delicious cuisine, and gorgeous nature.

When you feel like you’ve seen everything in Europe, Tirana is the city to visit. This is one of our favorite places to travel in Albania for vacations. It’s unlike any other destination, and one of the continent’s hidden gems. Untouched by chains yet cosmopolitan, Tirana interweaves influences from around Albania, Europe and beyond. You’ll take in a mix of eye-catching building styles in Tirana. And you can taste a melange of fresh flavors in Albanian cuisine. The city is a little rough around the edges, but it's very safe. Above all Tirana is a colorful place with very welcoming locals. You’ll have a wonderful time watching Tirana's history come alive. If you’d like a change of pace, the surrounding countryside and mountains of Albania are exquisite.

Route for Tirana tour

There’s plenty to explore in Tirana, with ample daytime and nightlife options. We recommend a walking tour in Tirana to get the lay of the land. The Bllokku area has a vibrant dining and cafe scene. Restaurants there feature creative local dishes that make unique use of a spectrum of influences. There aren’t many cities like Tirana left in Europe. It's a reasonably priced and inviting destination with a real mix of cultures. Yet it remains virtually untouched by tourists. And it really is an exciting time to visit. Tirana and the surrounding countryside of Albania certainly have enough to keep you busy for a couple of days. It’s worth traveling to the nearby Dajti Mountain, with its stunning views of Tirana and beyond. We’re sure you’ll enjoy your visit. We can offer several modern hotel options according to your needs. Tirana is one of the highlights of travel in Albania. Your time there will be unforgettable.

What we love about Tirana

Charlie

Marketing Director

It's difficult not to come to Tirana with some preconceptions, possibly negative. They will be dispelled in minutes. Welcoming locals (particularly towards Americans), quirky architecture, and crazy cheap and fabulously tasty local food. That's the impression you'll leave with.

My favorite thing about Tirana is its vibes. Tirana is welcoming and authentic, a place that will charm you in a completely different way. Colorful facades, lively squares, numerous art and shopping streets that are a pleasure to wander. Amazing food, intriguing stories, and a dynamic nightlife make this city a perfect destination. If you'd like to experience it truly like a local, the time is now.

Josipa

Team Leader for France, Benelux & Switzerland

Tirana hosts most of Albania's universities, which makes for youthful culture, and the city offers more to see every year. Many young Albanians raised abroad have started returning lately, founding new restaurants, cafes, and cultural sites, out of a love for Albania's culture and traditions.

Things to do in Tirana

If you've got more than a day in Tirana then you'll want to explore a little more. At the very least you can get out to Mt Dajti, taking a cable car nearly to the top to admire its views, or set out on a hike. Below the mountain is Bunk'art, a decommissioned fallout shelter built for the dictator Enver Hoxha and his elites, now a combination museum documenting the communist era and art installation gallery. Further afield, you could take day trips to the breathtaking Albanian Riviera or UNESCO-listed Berat or the closer towns of Kruja and Durres, on a day trip where you can enjoy fresh fish at a seaside restaurant. Our private walking tour will take you around the city's highlights, including Bunk'art, with a private guide showing you the way and telling you the stories as you go. When we send you your customized itinerary you will be able to choose additional excursions to include in your vacation package or consider adding later.
