The Italian influence on Rovinj is unmistakable, throughout the city you will find signs in both Croatian and Italian. Its historic center is modelled after Venice with a Venetian bell tower rising above it all. A maze of narrow cobble stoned streets leads you to its picturesque harbor surrounded by pastel colored houses. Rovinj has always been known as a city of fishermen and is still an active fishing port. Rovinj acts as an ideal base to explore the rest of the peninsula. The Italian feel extends out to other parts of Istria as many regard its countryside as the new Tuscany with rolling hills covered by vineyards and olive groves. The nearby towns of Pula famous for the Arena, Porec for the Euphrasius Basilica and Motovoun for its truffle production are easy day trips from Rovinj allowing visitors to capture the best of the region.
